Therefor King Daksha became angry and cursed Chandradev that your moonlight (shine) will be over. Gradually the brightness of the moon began to lighten. Then Chandradev became very disturbed and wandered from place to place with the Gods and Goddesses to get rid of this curse. Chandra dev came to Lord Brahma and asked to get rid of it. Lord Brahma advised to worship of Lord Shiva was the only way to get rid of this curse. After that Chandra Dev chanted ten crores “Mritunjay Mantra” in this temple.

Pleased with this, Lord Shiva gave a boon, keeping him happy and also considering King Daksha, that your brightness will go slowly from the Krishna Paksha, but will come back slowly from the Shukla Paksha. This solved the problem of Chandradev and King Daksha Maan did it. Then Chandra Dev prayed to Lord Shiva that Lord Shiva resided here with Mother Parvati, to relieve the sufferings devotees.
