Nageshvara Jyotirling Dwarka Gujarat is in Darukavanam of Dwarka District fo Gujarat. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga. So It is one of the most important pilgrims in Hinduism. This Temple is just 18 km far from Dwarka Dham and 242 km from Somnath Jyotirling. There is also a description of the Nagesvara temple in Shiv Puran. Darukavana was the forest’s name in ancient India. There is a 25 meter tall statue of Lord Shiva is a major attraction.

History of Nageshvara Jyotirling Dwarka Gujarat

It is two-story behind this Jyotirlinga.
First, according to Vamana Purana, a group of dwarf sages used to worship Lord Shiva in Darukavana. After seeing their devotion, Lord Shiva tried to see their passion and devotion. Therefor Lord shiva went nude to sages as ascetic only wearing Sarp (snake). seeing the nude saint, wife of sages got attracted began to follow that nude saint. Sages became angry to see this. Then Sages lost their patience and cursed the nude saint to lose his Linga.

After this linga of Lord Shiva fell down on the earth. It was just like a earthquake in universe. The whole world trembled. Even God and Goddess were surprised. Lord Vishnu And Brahma came to Lord Shiva. They requested to Lord Shiva that you take your Linga back and save the universe from destruction. Then Lord Shiva took his linga back and promised his divine presence forever as a Jyotirlinga in Darukavana.

Second story
According to Shiva Purana, There were a couple of Daruka and Daruki. The Daruki was the devotee of goddess Parvati. Goddess Parvati blessed her to see her devotion. She began to misuse of blessing and disturbed the local people. Once They captured Supriya( a Lord Shiva devotee) along with pilgrims on a boat. They demons imprisoned all the pilgrims along Supriya in Darukavana (forest). Supriya suggested all to chant Lord Shiva Mantra ‘Om Namaha Shivaya’. When Daruka came to know that Supriya told other to chant he ran to kill her. Lord Shiva could not kill the demon because they blessed from Goddess Parvati. so he appeared as a Shivlinga from the earth to protect Supriya. And People began to worship here as a Nageshvara Jyotirlinga. And this forest area is known as the Darukavana.
