Kedarnath Jyotirling Story
Pandava built the Kedarnath temple. After winning the war with Korvo, the Pandava brothers wanted to worship Lord Shiva to get rid of the sin of murder. But Lord Shiva was angry with Pandavas. Therefore he settled in Mount Kedarnath. When the Pandavas reached Kedarnath looking for them, Lord Shiva took the form of a buffalo and hid in a herd of animals. Bhima joined two mountains to identify Lord Shiva and stood on both the mountains taking a huge form himself.
All the other animals came out from under Bhima’s feet. But a buffalo did not come from the bottom of the foot. Seeing this, Bhima ran to catch the buffalo, and the buffalo started entering in the earth. Bhima caught the tail of that buffalo and tried to get up. But he was able to remove only part of the buffalo. Seeing his devotion, Lord Shiva was pleased and resided there as Kedarnath Jyotirlinga. Hence the shape of Kedarnath Jyotirlinga is like the back of a buffalo.
