Kalighat Kali Shaki Peetha Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and one of  4 Adi Shakti Peethas. It is on the old coast of the Hooghly River in Kolkata city, West Bengal. Devotees worship here of goddess Kali. It is a very famous temple not only in India but also in Bangladesh. Lakh of devotees come here to full fill their wish. The toes of the right foot of Sati’s body was fallen in Kalighat. Legend has it that a devotee saw a luminant ray of light coming from the Girathi River. After searching he found a ray of light coming from a piece of stone. When he reached it he saw that stone was just like a human toe. He also found Shivlinga of Nakuleshwar Bhairav nearby. He began to worship Kaali in the midst of a thick jungle. That’s why this temple is a Sakti Peetha.

The present was built in 1809 under Sabarna Roy Chowdhury. But there are descriptions of the temple in the 15th and 17th centuries ’ religious literature of Bengal. Which shows how old it is? The statue of goddess Kali in Kalighat temple is different from Goddess Kali statue of other temples.  The unique statue of Kali has three eyes, a long tongue, and four hands. The statue made of gold by saints Atmaram Brahmachari and Brahmananda Giri. There are two hands of statue one of these handholds a scythe and another hold sliced head of demon Shumbha. You must visit in the temple, Shoshti Tala, Natmandie, Jor Bangla, Harkath Tala, Radha-Krishna Temple, and Kundupukar.

Mangla Aarti 4 am.

Sandhya Aarti 6:30.
